OTHER SHEEP
OtherSheep is a new magazine and book imprint from Written World Communications aimed at the Christian market. Taking John 10:16 as our basis (I have other sheep not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.), we speak to the “Other Sheep” – those Christians who maybe don’t quite follow the beaten path, who live their faith in new and exciting ways.
We are looking for fiction, anecdotes, and articles that are edgy and exciting. Show us how you live your faith, give us a story with a Christian worldview that is completely unexpected (Yes, this IS the publication for that Christian zombie story you have rattling around). Make us laugh, make us think. We want you to challenge us with your work.
We are currently accepting original, unpublished work by freelance writers, artists, and photographers. Each submission should be typed, double‐spaced and contain:
- Your name as you would like it to appear in print, along with your contact information.
- Your story or article up to 3,500 words.
- Your poetry formatted in the way you would wish for it to appear upon the page.
- Your artwork or photo(s) sent in a .jpg format.
We are also looking for book reviews, movie reviews, and your column ideas. If you have something you think fits the format of OtherSheep, then send us an email explaining your idea as completely as possible.
For the book imprint we are looking for edgy and interesting manuscripts between 60,000 and 90,000 words in length. While we’re primarily interested in fiction, if you have something non‐fiction that you feel meets our needs, we encourage you to send us a query. Fiction genres include (but are not limited to) science fiction, fantasy, horror, suspense, and anything that pushes the envelope, so long as it still expresses a Christian worldview without being preachy.
For the magazine, payment ranges between $10 and 25 per piece depending on length and type of submission. Books will offer a very nominal advance as we’re very new and small at this point. Please keep this in mind as you submit your work. If passion for the strange and the opportunity to break into print overrides monetary compensation (though we ARE a royalty paying company), then we might be the publisher for you!
We retain the right to edit written submissions for grammar, brevity, and clarity of language. We would send you the suggested changes prior to publication. Please allow 6 – 8 weeks for notification. All submissions are by email only.
