Our Featured Scribbler for this month is HeavenStone, a writer of Fiction, Poetry, Romance, Fantasy, Fan Fiction among other things. Although she hasn't been published yet, I have no doubt that someday we'll be reading her work. I asked her to tell me a bit about herself and here's what she had to say.
Katagillian: What is your favorite thing to write and why?
HeavenStone: "My favorite thing to write is fantasy, even though I'm not really very good at it yet. I've been writing seriously for about three years, and outside of school for about two. Because of this, and the fact that I know I'm no hotshot, I love to escape into other worlds and other lives. My drive to write comes from inside, and that inspires me to try new things when I'm inspired. "
Why should you be our featured Scribbler?
To tell you the truth, I'm not exactly sure. Mainly because I think I represent a lot of things that Scribblers stands for. I'm an author who's inspired by odd things, I have plenty of stories that have been quite literally scribbled out, and writing is my passion -- the only thing I do well. I love seeing my words form into sentences, and I adore seeing those sentences become stories. I even enjoy editing my work and making it the best that it can be. Even now I want top find new and better ways to improve. I know I have a long way to go, and I'm simply not advanced enough to make it on my own. I rely my author-friends to help me out.
What have you done to realize your dream of being a writer?
There's been more than one instance when I've found myself sitting at a table in the English room two hours after school discussing my latest unformed piece. I know writing doesn't make you an author, and I know being an author doesn't make you a writer. I try to be a good writer --expressing feelings -- as well as being a successful author by telling a story. I know I have a long way to go, but I feel that I've faced the writing concept head-on.
Heavenstone added these comments to her form that I wish to share with you all:
Dreams can become reality only with hard work and dissappointment. When your eyes glaze over and the inspiration comes... that is a moment when all the hardship in the world is worth it.
Differentiating between topic and focus is critical to clearer writing. Topic refers to the subject matter. Focus goes much deeper. It is what the story is about, its theme or dramatic premise.
